Former President Trump vowed to go to Alaska to fight Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski's election campaign, who has always criticized him, in 2022.
"Under no circumstances would I be in favor of the failed Alaska candidate, Lisa Murkowski. She didn't do a good job representing her state and worse than representing her country." I don't know where the others will be next year, but I do know I'm going to Alaska to fight a bad and disloyal senator, "Trump said in a statement to The Hill .
"Her vote of the proposal to have radical Democrat Deb Haaland as interior minister is an example of Murkowski not representing Alaska," the statement said.
Mrs. Murkowski, who took office as senator for the first time in 2002, has always been critical of Mr Trump.
The senator also took a different stance from Republicans in recent polls. This week, she surprised Republicans by announcing she would support Democratic Rep. Deb Haaland's nomination as interior minister.
Ms Murkowski is also one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in the Senate impeachment trial last month. Of the seven senators, Ms. Murkowski was the only one to run for re-election in 2022.
Mr. Trump's threat is the latest indication that the former president wants to use his influence in the 2022 congressional races across the United States.
Although the former president's support rate has dropped significantly since the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol, some Republicans still yearn for Trump's help. They want to receive votes from a large group of people who are still following the former president.
The conflict between Mr Trump and Ms Murkowski originated at least in 2018. Ms Murkowski voted against the former president's nomination to appoint Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court judge that year.
